Birmingham City University are opening applications for their Saturday Club: a fantastic opportunity to develop a wide range of creative skills in BCU’s Fashion, Textile, Jewellery & Art and Design facilities, led by their experienced staff.
This year’s club theme is Make, Do & Mend where club members will have the opportunity to develop their creativity and imagination, experimenting with and exploring some of the hand-making skills and techniques used within DIY fabric, jewellery and paper crafts including recycling, up-cycling, weaving, sewing, folding, applique, collaging, sculpting, stitching, printing, and much more.
There will be the opportunity to go on trips to the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and attend the National Saturday Club’s annual Graduation ceremony. They may even see their work exhibited at the Club’s Summer Show at Somerset House in London.
The club runs from Nov 24-May 25, is completely free and all sessions take place at BCU’s Parkside Building in the city centre.

Explore the UniVerse with Aimhigher! As part of our H.E. 4 Me programme, we invite Year 10-13 learners with care experience and their supporting adults to explore the world of university. Join us on Thursday 24 October 2024 at the Exchange in Birmingham for an exciting day of talks and workshops to inspire and motivate young people when making decisions about their future.

The Department for Education has this week promised an injection of funding over a number of years for a project in collaboration with Young Sounds UK to bring free music lessons to disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND.
It will follow on from on the charity’s existing programme, Young Sounds Connect, which has been in operation for around 15 years and was the first of its kind to offer free music lessons and exams to primary and secondary pupils.
The project will involve 480 children across 10 English music hubs already on the connect programme. They will be joined by 490 others, with two more hubs added.
CEO Hester Cockcroft said the government cash will “supercharge” the programme. |
