Dear Parents and Carers,
Today is Safer Internet Day 2020. We have attached some resources that we think will help families to discuss how to use the internet safely.
On 1 July 2020 to 3 July 2020 inclusive, we are offering your Year 8 child the opportunity to attend an Outdoor Adventure event. The experience will take place at Oaker Wood Outdoor Education Centre, Leominster, Herefordshire. The trip will also involve a camping experience and your child will be staying and sleeping in pods at the on-site camp site – http://www.oakerwoodleisure.co.uk
The camping facilities at Oaker Wood consist of permanent pods that sleep 6-8 pupils that have bunk beds. The camp site offers a shower block of four showers and five, very new, outdoor eco-toilets. There is also a camp fire we would have access to for the evening entertainment.
All food is provided for and cooked on site by the resident chef. However, the pupils will be responsible for cleaning away, washing and drying the pots. This will be part of their team building responsibilities.
The activities available during their stay will be:-
- High Ropes Adventure
- Paintball
- Team Building Challenges
- Rafting
- Quad biking
We are combining physical activity and team building in the hope that relating the two activities will have a positive impact on the pupils’ social interaction.
The cost for three days activities and two night’s accommodation will be £180.00. This will include all activities, on-site instruction and all food and drink.

As part of Film Club at John Henry Newman Catholic College, at the end of every film, students are tasked with writing a short and creative film review in under 60 words. This weeks winner is Finn K in year 7, who completed this film review of The Hunger Games.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review: The Hunger Games was a great movie. Throughout the film I felt both loss and happiness in a new and interesting way. I would definitely recommend this film especially to teenagers as it has a mixture of action and romance. Overall the film was engaging even though it was not my favourite genre.
Would You Recommend: Yes
Reminder: Film Club is on every Monday from 3:00pm in 1E13, next week we will continue with ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’
