Whole School Commitment to Young Carers
At John Henry Newman Catholic College, we are fully committed to meeting the needs of young carers so that they can attend school, enjoy their learning, and achieve their potential alongside all other students.
Key Commitments
- Designated Young Carers’ Lead
The school has a designated Young Carers’ School Lead responsible for supporting young carers and their families. The identity of this lead is made known to pupils and families, and contact details are provided for those seeking support. - Young Carers Group
We run a dedicated Young Carers Group where students can meet, share experiences, and receive support. - Confidentiality
Information about young carers is only shared with professionals and agencies on a need-to-know basis to ensure the appropriate support is provided to the pupils and their families. - Feedback and Improvement
The school actively seeks feedback and ideas from young carers and their families to continually shape and improve the support we provide. - Pupil Premium Funding
We use Pupil Premium funding to help reduce any barriers to education and learning that young carers may experience, ensuring equal opportunities for success. - Effective Referral System
The school has an established and effective referral system, with strong partnerships in place with relevant external agencies, including the school nurse and the local young carers’ service, to ensure comprehensive support.
